This image of receding tabletop mesas is archetypal Southwest U.S.  The earth tones and dust laden sky bands reflect that geography. The layering of the landscape from foreground to the horizon was via carefully chosen variation in color attributes of intensity and saturation. The banding of the sky was similarly controlled. This image of a layered, smallish meadow reaching to lakeside was a vision of a getaway in the Shasta Lake mold.  The meadow and background ridges of this abstract art image create an interesting  lake shape. The color relationship between the foreground meadow and lemon sky tend to bring those two image components together.

This image came from road trip observations of mountain rivers pooling into lakes and then back into rushing rivers. This abstract painting shows water depth as concentric layers; less natural but visually more interesting. The passing lane is typical; a remedy to Sunday drive gawkers.

This image is the color world I would prefer to live in. Mountain wildflowers of jungle-like density. Each hill with its own floral variety and color. An experiment in pointillism (and brush stroke style), this abstract art image suggests a third dimension via color saturation and brush stroke size.
